NESTLÉ Zimbabwe has increased production of its popular breakfast cereal, CEREVITA, following a US$7 million investment into local manufacturing to meet rising demand.

HARARE, July 2 (NewaDay Live)-NESTLÉ Zimbabwe has increased production of its popular breakfast cereal, CEREVITA, following a US$7 million investment into local manufacturing to meet rising demand.

The investment, part of the food giant’s long-term strategy to bolster its local operations, has already yielded results, with a 35% boost in production capacity following the installation of a new roller drier machine.

This expansion is expected to improve product availability across Zimbabwe and neighbouring countries including Zambia, Malawi, and Mozambique.

“This investment is not just about production infrastructure, It’s about long-term nourishment, empowerment and pride in a product that reflects our local taste, our local grain, and our local spirit” Nestlé East and Southern Africa regional managing director and chairperson Nicole Roos said.

The investment forms part of Nestlé’s broader virtuous circle model  which emphasises local sourcing, community inclusion, and sustainable operations.

In Zimbabwe, Nestlé currently partners with over 350 local suppliers and 18 farmers, supports 149 full-time staff, and provides work for 268 casual employees. It also runs an annual graduate trainee programme for eight young professionals.

Available in five variants  Corn & Wheat, Corn & Banana, Corn, Cocoa & Malt, Flakes with Milk, and Corn & Sorghum, CEREVITA is produced in two pack sizes (500g sachets and 750g boxes).

Each product is fortified with GRAINSMART™, a proprietary blend of iron, vitamins, and minerals designed to aid energy release in the body, helping support both children and adults through the day.

“CEREVITA holds a unique place on Zimbabwean breakfast tables,” Nestlé’s East Africa and Greater Zambezi operations managing director Khaled Ramadan added.

“It’s made using whole grains that retain the bran, germ, and endosperm, making it naturally rich in fibre, essential fats, antioxidants, magnesium, and carbohydrates  ideal for nourishing the whole family,”she said.

Beyond economic growth, Nestlé says the modernisation push supports Zimbabwe’s Vision 2030 development agenda, with a focus on sustainable manufacturing through energy-efficient processes, water savings, and waste reduction.
