Zim in a mess because the educated have taken the backseat

Opinion & Analysis
Our country is in a mess because those who should be leading with wisdom, dignity and vision, the educated, have stepped aside, allowing thieves, liars and political opportunists to seize the reins of power.

FOURTY-FIVE years on, Zimbabwe, our beloved nation, is bleeding, not from war, not from a natural disaster, but from a slow, soul crushing betrayal from within.

Our country is in a mess because those who should be leading with wisdom, dignity and vision, the educated, have stepped aside, allowing thieves, liars and political opportunists to seize the reins of power.

One by one, the deceitful have wormed their way into influential positions, not on merit, but through corruption, manipulation and connections built in back rooms and shadowy corners.

And once a thief rises to power, he does not seek out the best minds or honest hands to build the nation, he calls in more of his own.

They form circles of impunity, erecting barricades against accountability and silencing the voices of reason and reform.

We are now watching, in real time, as people with dodgy qualifications, fake degrees and no trace of integrity hold offices that were once meant for nation builders.

Government corridors echo with corruption, yet no inquiry is called, no suspension issued, not even a public conversation.

The looters go unchallenged, shielded by networks of self-interest, while the country sinks further into poverty, despair and hopelessness.

And the tragedy?

The people who could rescue Zimbabwe, those educated in engineering, accounting, law, medicine, science, business and beyond are silent.

Some have left the country, broken by frustration.

Others sit quietly, afraid or resigned, watching as criminals masquerade as leaders.

This is not only disheartening, it is dangerous.

For when the righteous retreat, the wicked rejoice.

We must say this, loudly and clearly, Zimbabwe cannot be fixed by thieves.

It cannot be revived by those who loot and lie, who destroy what they cannot build.

Only those who have studied, who understand governance and who truly care for the people can pull the country back from the edge.

It is time, long past time, for the educated to stop playing the role of quiet bystanders. Zimbabwe needs you.

Not tomorrow, not someday, now. Step forward. Speak up. Run for office. Join movements. Challenge the rot.

This country belongs to all of us, not just those with bloodstained fingers and stolen titles.

We are not asking for perfect people. We are asking for principled people.

People who still dream of a Zimbabwe that works, that thrives, that uplifts every child regardless of their surname or tribe.

That Zimbabwe is possible, but only if those with knowledge, conscience and courage reclaim their rightful place at the helm.

Let history never say that we sat in silence while the nation fell.

Let it be said that when darkness threatened, the educated rose, not for fame or fortune, but for love of Zimbabwe.

The time is now.
