ZIMBABWEAN national rugby player Shingie Katsvere is seeking US$40 000 so that he can undergo therapy as he tries to learn to move, speak and live independently again through long-term rehabilitation.
So far, slightly above US$9 000 has been raised through a gofundme campaign.
Katsvere suffered a sudden heart attack and stroke on May 10, an unfortunate incident that would change the life of the 28-year-old athlete forever
He was preparing to return to his club in France, where he continues to pursue his athletic career.
“The Sables Trust and the ZRU [Zimbabwe Rugby Union] have looked after all of Shingie’s bills to this point, including a two-week stay at HealthPoint, to which we are extremely grateful for,” per 3-MOB.
“Shingie, a passionate national rugby player known for his energy, strength and unwavering dedication, suffered a major heart attack followed by a stroke, a heartbreaking and unexpected event for someone so young and full of life.
“This sudden crisis has left him facing a long, difficult road to recovery.”
The publication stated that Katsvere was in a stable condition, but needed intensive rehabilitation, including physical, occupational and speech therapy to regain movement and function, particularly on the left side of his body.
